Which game do i start off with? - Guild Wars Forums

i'm getting ready to buy gw, never played any of the versions yet, which one do you think i should start off with. are they all comepletly stand alone or do you combine them for a better, bigger game?

you combine them for a bigger better game, but you can play them stand-alone, youll just have less skills to choose from. Prophecies and Nightfall are the best ones to start out with.

There's a sticky thread on this forum which goes into more details about each of the games, and which ones might be the most suitable for a newbie. You can check it here.

Prophecies (the original, usually sold as just plan "Guild Wars"), Factions and Nightfall are all stand-alone, but if you combine them you can transfer characters from one game to the other games giving your characters more professions, more skills, more armor options, and a host of other benefits. The latest game, Eye of the North, is not stand-alone and requires at least one of the previous three games to play (and is all high-level content).

I would recommend either starting off with Prophecies or Nightfall (Nightfall is good because it allows you to use heroes to help you) and then getting whichever of those you did not.. and then finally Factions. If you enjoy the series, I would then add EOTN (Eye of the North) onto your account.

Story wise (and chronologically) Prophecies is the start.

Doesn't matter which one you want to play first, really.
